Answer
Photo #1: Buck hiding in the grass
This buck has learned how to hide to avoid perceived threats (i.e. hunters), by lying down flat in an open grass field, and remain motionless until the threat of any danger has passed. Notice how his head and rack are hidden behind that patch of grass. He has adapted survival skills utilizing his surroundings.
Photo #2: Buck swims across River to avoid hunters
A mature whitetail buck will do anything to avoid hunters once alarmed by your scent and hunting pressure, including swimming to a new location, which deer seem to do effortlessly. A mature buck can weather out the whole season on a very small island, or other inaccessible areas where hunters tend to venture into. This buck has adapted to his surroundings also.
